About the Convention

Serving the BetterInvesting Community for Over 50 Years

The BetterInvesting National Convention (BI Convention) is a four day event that offers

  • Educational seminars
  • One-on-one mentoring for novice investors
  • A corporate expo staffed by representatives from many companies
  • Corporate & industry presentations and roundtable discussions
  • Keynote and other speakers
  • A computer lab staffed by all of the BI software developers
  • Interaction with other investors, chapter directors, national directors, trustees and NAIC headquarters staff

Presented each year in a different city by BetterInvesting's National Investors Association (NIA) Advisory Board, the Convention has been bringing investors together for over half a century.

One unique feature of the Convention is our Expo and "Corporate Day." A critical part of investment analysis is understanding industry-specific issues and learning how to obtain information from the companies we study. The Convention brings together a large number of investor relations representatives in our Expo hall, and we harness their collective knowledge and experience in presenting industry roundtable discussions and corporate speaker sessions to allow you to quickly come up to speed on specific companies in which you might be interested.

Education is naturally the core of our event. This year we're offering 10 parallel class tracks, each consisting of 10 one-hour seminars. That's over one hundred hours worth of classes to select from (not including our youth program). Class tracks range from one aimed at absolute beginners, to one for those who are at the Just-Beyond-Beginner stage, on up to intermediate and advanced topics. We have even more classes on Sunday morning. We augment the benefits we get from our corporate sponsors by offering a track aimed at industry-specific analysis. We want our attendees to be able to take maximum advantage of the corporate representatives available at this event in a face-to-face setting.

The Computer Lab is another important aspect of the Convention. We've brought together all the software developers and given them a venue in which you have lots of chances to interact personally; yet the developers are also very accessible to everyone, presenting sometimes in larger groups and sometimes in one-on-one or small-group discussions or demonstrations.

Not to be overlooked is the benefit that attendees gain from interacting with so many other investors, directors, developers, trustees, and staff. Some attendees find this aspect to be the most valuable aspect of the Convention, whether it is from new ideas or talking face-to-face through problems and issues.

For a "portable" summary of the BI Convention --- perhaps to show to fellow club members --- you can download a self-running powerpoint slideshow. Just right-click on the link to download it to your computer. Warning: this is a large file, about 2.2MB.

The Better Investing National Convention will be held September 7th - 10th in Columbus, Ohio. Keep watching these Web pages and BetterInvesting magazine for more details as the event approaches.
